About me

I’m a twenty-something* Brit who loves the great outdoors and has two main desires in life: to travel and photograph. I’m very happy when doing one but I’m in heaven when doing them together. I also have a love for hiking and snorkelling, crazy adventures, islands, and offbeat places  – all of which my poor camera(s) have to endure, and all of which you’ll find here on my travel site.

Things I hate? Socks. I hate wearing socks. But then I got chilblains from not wearing them in winter. And then I got trench foot on a hike when I wore some for too long. There’s no winning with them. I also have an uncharacteristically-British dislike of tea or coffee which can get quite awkward as people try to figure out what I do drink. Instead I’m a bit obsessed with water and, erm, apple juice.

Moving on, my formal background is in writing: I did a degree in English and worked at a university for five years writing, editing, and proof reading content. During this time I taught myself photography and gradually my focus turned to photography – portraits, events, editorials, and even design. I’ve been a freelance photographer for the last three years now, and I teach photojournalism for 12 weeks a year at the same university.

Whilst all of this was going on my desire to travel only ever grew. I had my first taste of travelling solo at 18, when I signed up for volunteer work in Canada. What was a four week trip turned into a six-month stay and I was hooked. Since then I’ve been to over 25 countries, often by myself and always on a budget, always photographing along the way.

But for me it’s not about going to countless countries to tick them off a list. It’s about getting stuck in and getting the best out of each and every one. It’s about going on and off the beaten track and then some. I love to explore weird and wonderful places, or the places that guidebooks seem to overlook, and I love to get involved with local life and customs.

Now travel isn’t something I do four weeks of the year, it’s become my lifestyle and I love it. At Christmas in 2015 I quit my 9-5 university job to lead a more nomadic life – to make a life out of photographing, travelling and blogging. Since then I’ve flown across the world, visiting four continents along the way. Travel has a sneaky way of pushing your limits and boundaries to the point where you look back and can’t believe the places you’ve been or the things you’ve done. It’s the best feeling!

And whilst I travel I want to give back to you, the readers. I love helping you to have your own awesome adventures and giving you the guides, tips, inspiration and resources to get you on your way. Because travel is a simple pleasure that doesn’t have to expensive to be amazing, it’s something we can all enjoy!

* Update: I turned 30 this year – eek!!

  2. Nice thinking and ambition. I started my journey of blog writing with these lines:
    “Follow your instincts, that’s where true wisdom manifests itself.”
    I think I have found one among many of us here. Keep it up !!

  3. Ahhh – sounds like a familiar story. We love travel and photography too… and we also “stuck” in full time work. One of the these days we will find a happy medium but until then we preoccupy ourselves with our blog.

  4. I love your blog, just been looking at it,and started to follow it. I am very excited to see all your upcoming posts! Maybe on your travels you could come out here to China and we could do some shooting on the streets together sometime!

    1. Thank you so much!! I would love to go to China and other places in the Asia (Japan also), as I have really only been to places in Europe, so yes, that would be amazing :)

  5. I love the second sentence! Perfectly describes how I feel about travelling and photography, as well! Though I have less than a year of experience in photography and am way more than an amateur I feel. :P It’s alright, though. I’m working on it. :D Good luck on your journey!! Can’t wait to see more of your photography and the wonderful places you’ll travel to!

  6. Your blog is absolutely fantastic! You’re a great writer and a photographer! I wish you all the best and I’ll make sure I read your posts at least a couple of times! Cheers, Nataly
